FAQ: Are the patterns handmade?

Yes, all the layers in my work are made by hand. The photo below provides a glimpse into the process used to make Birds and Bees in the Garden (detail photo above). I start by designing a repeat pattern. This usually starts with a few sketches that I tighten up into a finished drawing for the pattern. You can see the original drawing for this one at the top of the photo. It’s drawn to scale so I can overlay the mylar in order to trace it and place it properly on the page. I went on to add some value to this drawing which is what I’m doing in the photo below.
