desert flowers seen on walks

At the end of May I traveled to the desert to visit family and go on an actual vacation (my first since pre-Covid days). We spent time in both Arizona and California and the flowers are one of my favorite things in both places.

The yellow of these flowers is so gorgeous. Yellow, in my opinion, is a tough color to paint with and I’ve always admired Baroque painter Artemesia Gentileschi’s brilliant use of the color. Look up her work for yellow inspiration!

Meantime, I’ll be sharing my process as I create a new collection of paintings (which will likely have just subtle notes of yellow) here and on my Instagram stories.
