Butterfly Conservation

Ghost Butterflies is available at SŌMI Gallery

With this piece, I wanted to play with adding a very subtle layer of embroidery. I also wanted to draw attention to the plight of butterflies and other pollinators.

Sadly, I’ve seen fewer butterflies than usual this year which is cause for concern and I’ve been thinking of more ways to help. If you, too, are interested in helping the butterflies I recommend searching for butterfly conservation resources in your geographic location.

A few of the things we do:

-planting a lot of pollinator plants

-avoiding the use of chemical weed sprays and pesticides on our lawn

-letting a few areas of our yard go a little wild to provide habitat

I welcome other suggestions; please send them my way! Below is an image of an insect hotel my husband made in our yard to provide further habitat.
